Background
The Wal-Wanne Foundation was established with a deep commitment to fostering sustainable development and improving the quality of life for communities across Nigeria, particularly in the northeastern region. Founded by Dr. Abiso Kabir in response to the pressing socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria, the Foundation operates with the core belief that meaningful and lasting change is achieved through targeted interventions in critical areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and community development.
Strategic Focus:
The Wal-Wanne Foundation’s strategic initiatives are closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These initiatives focus on:
- Education and Youth Empowerment: Enhancing educational access and quality for underprivileged children and youths, including orphans and internally displaced persons (IDPs). The Foundation has provided scholarships, organized career readiness seminars, and facilitated computer training programs to equip young people with the skills they need for a brighter future.
- Health and Well-being: Improving community health through initiatives like free veterinary services, environmental cleaning, and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs. The Foundation has also been active in providing relief during health crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Agricultural and Economic Development: Supporting farmers and small-scale traders, particularly women, through the provision of agricultural inputs, training, and business resources. The Foundation’s Anchor Borrowers Program and poultry farming empowerment initiatives are designed to boost agricultural productivity and promote financial inclusion.
- Community Development and Social Welfare: Addressing critical community needs such as access to clean water, disaster relief, and poverty alleviation. The Foundation has constructed boreholes, provided flood relief, and distributed food to vulnerable populations, particularly in conflict-affected areas.
